Once we learn the power of mindset, we become equipped with the ability to change our life and take back control of it’s narrative.
I believe in purpose. I believe in living on purpose. I believe that in order to actualize our full potential, we must claim this purpose for ourselves.
How many times have we let opportunity pass us by? How many times have we been stuck in our own story? What if we took a different view and rewrote the narrative of our lives?
Life can at first, seem chaotic and random. It can feel as if we are doomed to exist in a reactionary state. Victims of events and circumstance that remain out of our control. Destined to live with the consequences and cleaning up the mess from whatever is left behind.
But life is only chaotic and meaningless if we close our hearts and minds from seeing what life really is. Life is a sequence of events that await the application of meaning and purpose.
You and I are called upon to write the narrative and give meaning to what has occurred. This is our greatest power. It is the power of mindset and perception.
I did not always have such a positive outlook on life. Life was not always this way for me. I spent far too much of my life playing the victim and letting circumstance define me.
I didn’t always know my own power. I didn’t know that I had the power to change an event’s meaning, just by changing my own perception. I thought fate was always the captain, and I had resigned myself to the role of co-pilot at best and a mere passenger at worst.
I wrote off my life and my choices as a result of things that I claimed were out of my control. And if my circumstance seemed unfair, I used it to excuse myself from giving life a try. Anger, fear, and running from truth seemed a viable alternative. Until it wasn’t.
Life was not going well for me 10 years ago. I was at the end of the line with no where to turn. Years of drug use and then homelessness had taken their toll and in 2010, I gave up and attempted to take my own life.
By the grace of what I will define as spirit, a dad and sister of infinite love, and a few friends that refused to give up on me, I found my way back from the brink. But stepping back from the edge of the abyss was just the beginning.
To find my way back to myself meant facing my deepest fears, coming to terms with life, and reevaluating what life meant and what I was here for. Could it be that I had been placed here on purpose?
I had to reflect back on my life, rewrite the narrative, and redefine the meaning of events that had transpired. It was time to look at life through a different lens, gain a clearer perspective, and a positive mindset.
I learned to consider challenges as opportunities, loss as experience gained, and mistakes as invitations for growth.
Finally, I developed an appreciation for the human spirit. I discovered the meaning of a miracle. I learned that a miracle is simply a shift in our perception.
I don’t expect for your own story and lived experience to have come to such an explosive turning point as mine. But no matter your life story, and no matter where life has led you, I hope that it is not left unexamined or unexplored.
Is there still some hidden meaning or learning opportunity that may have been missed? Some chance occurrence that was assumed to be predetermined by fate.
If life was left up to the fate of the stars, and if we had no part to play in the narrative, then I don’t believe there would be any point in our existence.
Life will continue to happen around us. It will expand and unfold before our eyes. It will beg for us to create meaning in what we witness. It is the narrative created from the human mind that adds context and meaning to life.
I hope that we can all see light where we once saw darkness. Every one of us is deserving of a miracle. Every one of us deserves to find meaning and purpose within the mosaic of life.
It is time for us to take a different view. Here is to our rewriting of the stars and taking control of our life’s narrative.
