This is a free write of my thoughts and emotions on the Montgomery High School Stabbing here in Santa Rosa. The whole point of this entry and the whole point of any of my writings is to have the courage to face the moments of our lives head on.
We Are All In This Together
It may seem to some, that the event that has transpired has nothing to do with you, or me, or anyone not directly impacted. But the truth is, we are all impacted and it has everything to do with all of us. What happens to one happens to all for we are all connected.
To Find Resolution, We Must Own Our Part
I am trying to find a resolution for what has happened. It might come in time, but not right now.
It is uncomfortable. And I think that perhaps my stronger self needs to accept that I have to sit in this pile of crap that I, along with everyone else, has created. Our stronger selves need to face these events head on, take ownership of our part in it, and decide how best to move forward.
Don’t Hide Behind Blame
We cannot run away from what we have created. We are too far in now. And we can’t keep hiding behind the pointing of the finger. Always so eager to place blame. We cannot walk away from this. We will find peace and resolution by taking responsibility.
Articles blame the school, it’s current lack of upkeep, and the supposed lack of response by the faculty. Sure, it all plays a part. But so do we. When there is an action such as one wounding another, we are responsible for it. We are responsible for the assailant and the victim. All are human.
There Is A Bigger Picture Here
It makes me think of a volcano. You see the destruction when one erupts, and it is horrific.
This one singular act is like that volcano. One eruption bursting out from something much larger, bubbling, and ready to burst open at the seams. I think you know what I am talking about.
We Must Take Courage and Stand Together
It’s scary to think about. It takes courage to own it. And in the short term, its easier to find something or someone to blame. But this does nothing for you and me. And I think you and I both know that what I am touching on is true.
To leave something unresolved does not have to bury us. This experience of ours that we call life. It is far from done and it is still in the making. The unresolved waits for us to take ownership of what we have created, and to now work towards creating something beautiful. It can show that we have learned from our mistakes. We must not let any loss of life be in vain.
We must take responsibility for the circumstances we have created. This does not make us less. It makes us more. We are powerful – quite possibly more powerful than we could have ever imagined. But with great power comes great responsibility – for all of us.
A Time For Prayer
Pray for the assailant. Even they have a story. I truly believe that even the assailant is inherently good. And what went wrong, what led to their actions is on all of us. I will not back down from this statement. For I believe will all my heart in all of humanity.
Pray for the victims. Pray that their loss of life is not in vain. We must have courage to remember and to not forget.
Finally, pray for each other and pray for ourselves. Have courage and remember how powerful we are. Pray that we take responsibility and have faith in one another. Our work is not done and we must all step forward and do our part.
